MHP Technology introduces a low-cost automation solution for canvas stretching: SB StretchBasic

MHP Technology, a leader in automated canvas stretching, is introducing the SB StretchBasic, a new solution for cost-efficient production automation. The machine bridges the current wide gap between manual manufacturing and high-end industrial equipment.

The SB StretchBasic has been specially developed to offer maximum precision with minimum investment costs. MHP effectively covered the high-volume canvas production segment with the launch of its new fully automated ULTRA in 2024 and high-end semi-automatic solution ST-Flow and Flow-Tandem in 2025.

The family business from Berlin saw an opportunity in the large gap between this industrial level of automation and manual production with hand-tools. The SB closes this gap and provides the usual drum-tight stretch producers know from MHP equipment. Moreover, the SB is a low-cost solution for extra capacity and redundancy during peak season and order spikes in canvas production. MHP’s low-cost portfolio segment is currently complemented by the new Poster Roller, which simplifies the packaging handling of large-format prints.

“Our goal with the SB StretchBasic is to make low-cost automation accessible to artist canvas as well as wall-art and photo canvas printers of all sizes,” says Kay Montag, Founder and CEO at MHP.  “Together with the ST Stretchmaster, ST-Flow Tandem, Ultra, and SF Speedframer, we now round out our equipment range for all canvas workflows to increase efficiency without breaking the bank.”

“We also found that most customers reached their capacity limits during the peak season and needed to expand capacity without having to invest fully again,” says Georgette Sawan, EVP Business Development at MHP. “And the SB will also serve as a backup – something that most people don’t even think about given the generally very high uptime of our systems.”

The SB Stretch Basic, along with the PosterRoller, will be the focus of the MHP booth 2-D11 at the FESPA Global Print Show in Barcelona from May 19-22, 2026.
